KSER Replaces Drupal 5 Site with Drupal CMS 2.0
Community radio station KSER has replaced a long-running Drupal 5 website with a Drupal CMS 2.0 build using Drupal Canvas. In a case study, Freelock says it rebuilt the site after maintaining the unsupported Drupal 5 installation since 2013, including isolating its ageing PHP and operating-system dependencies in Docker containers. The agency says the station approved the replacement after securing a budget and considering a move to WordPress.
The replacement combines Drupal CMS 2.0 with Drupal Canvas so editors can assemble landing pages while the station’s audio player remains active during navigation. Freelock says the work began on a pre-release build; Drupal CMS 2.0 was released on 28 January 2026 with Canvas as its default editing experience. The case presents a Drupal implementation for organisations that need visual page building without moving continuous media playback into a separate browser window.
To avoid restarting the stream, Freelock says it modified the View Transitions module so HTMX replaces the main page content while leaving the player and site styles in place. Drupal 11.2 added the HTMX library and asset processing to core, while Drupal 11.3 introduced fuller APIs and rendering support. The case study does not publish the implementation code or link to a public patch, so the reported playback behaviour cannot be independently assessed from the source alone.
