OpenKnowledgebase Uses Drupal 11 for Governed AI Knowledge Workflows

Open-source knowledge platform OpenKnowledgebase is being built on Drupal 11 for knowledge shared between people and AI agents. In a 9 September 2026 blog post, Wolfgang Ziegler, managing partner and CTO at drunomics, described the project's technical approach and said its first public beta was expected in the coming weeks. The project site identifies Drupal 11 as the backend for permissions, workflows, revisions and APIs.

Ziegler describes Drupal's governance tools as the basis for controlling how people and agents contribute, with configurable review levels and provenance and citations recorded at the content-block level. The wider stack includes the Drupal MCP Server for agent access, Nuxt for the decoupled frontend and OpenSearch for search and vector retrieval. OpenKnowledgebase is also intended to support live collaborative editing and reviewed agent changes rather than treating AI-generated content as automatically trusted.

According to Ziegler, the project is being developed in collaboration with the Drupal AI Initiative, with initial plans covering a built-in chat assistant, retrieval with citations and AI-enhanced search. Later plans include background agents intended to help identify stale or conflicting knowledge. The self-hosted product is planned as fully open source under MIT and GPLv2+ licensing, while drunomics intends to offer optional hosting, support and migration services.
