Mautic to Go Independent, Announces Dries

Mautic strives to be an alternative to the expensive, closed, and stagnant marketing clouds.

Acquia-owned Open-Source marketing automation platform, Mautic, is setting sail for an independent journey. Acquia’s CTO, Dries Buytaert, announced this on April 18, 2023, through his blog. Mautic works to deliver the only Open Digital Experience Platform. It strives to be an alternative to expensive, closed, stagnant marketing clouds.

As a next step, Acquia will transfer the Mautic trademarks, domain names, and complete governance to the Open-Source Collective on behalf of the standalone Mautic project. Mautic will also update its governance structure.

Acquia acquired Mautic in 2019, and according to Dries, it now has ten times as many contributors as three years ago. Mautic has decided to become a standalone project, and Acquia supports the decision.

Dries compares this situation to the initial days of Drupal. When Drupal’s expansion began gaining momentum, he recognized the need to support its growth. This thought led to the formation of the Drupal Association, an independent non-profit organization dedicated to that purpose. Dries hopes spinning out Mautic from Acquia will help level the playing field for everyone in the Mautic community. Read the blog post to know more details.
