Alejandro Moreno Elected to Drupal Association Board
The Drupal Association has announced the results of the 2024 Board Election, welcoming three new members to its Board of Directors. Alejandro Moreno secured the community-elected At-Large seat, joining Sachiko Muto, Chairperson of OpenForum Europe & Senior Researcher at RISE, and Stella Power, founder and CEO of Annertech, who were also appointed during the recent public board meeting at DrupalCon Barcelona 2024.
In an earlier interview with The DropTimes, Alejandro Moreno shared his vision for the future of the Drupal Association. His plans include reducing the association’s dependency on DrupalCon as its primary revenue source by diversifying funding, enhancing the first-time user experience, and attracting younger talent to the community.
"Once we reduce our reliance on DrupalCon and diversify and increase our income, the DA can become more sustainable and stable. This would allow us to consider directly employing core developers within the DA itself. Currently, companies like Acquia invest heavily in Drupal, which is beneficial, but it would be more sustainable and transparent if core developers were hired directly by a non-commercial entity like the DA, accountable directly to the community."
said, Alex. He expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the role.
"I'm deeply honored to have been elected to the Drupal Association Board," said Moreno. "Thank you to everyone for your trust and support—I look forward to serving our incredible community!"
Sachiko Muto and Stella Power, the two additional appointees, bring their own wealth of experience and leadership to the board. Their inclusion marks a new chapter in the Drupal Association’s ongoing efforts to guide the future of the Drupal project.
The association also extended heartfelt thanks to outgoing board members Nikki Flores, Senior Technical Project Manager and Co-owner of employee-owned company Lullabot, and Nick Veenhof, Director of Contributor Success at GitLab, for their dedication and service. Their contributions have made a lasting impact on both the Drupal project and the community at large.
The announcement of these new members comes at a critical time for Drupal, with the association focusing on expanding its reach, diversifying revenue streams, and attracting new talent. The election saw 707 voters casting their ballots, with Alejandro Moreno receiving 282 votes. The Drupal Association thanked all the candidates who participated and encouraged them to consider running again in 2025.
As the board transitions with its new members, the Drupal community is set to continue thriving under the fresh leadership of these dedicated individuals.
