Community, AI, and Asia in Focus as amazee.io Connects at DrupalCon Nara 2025
DrupalCon Nara 2025 is in full swing at Hotel Nikko Nara, and the amazee.io team has already opened its booth and started meeting attendees. The energy in the hall is high, helped along by the bright hexagon conference logo that mixes blue, yellow, and red around a six pointed star with a stylized drop at the center. It fits the mood of a community that values both roots and innovation.
amazee.io arrived with a simple goal. Show up for the Drupal community, share the progress they have made with DrupalAI, and build stronger connections across Asia. The booth has become a natural meeting point. Visitors stop in to talk hosting, pick up swag, and ask about the Private Drupal AI Provider that has become a point of curiosity for many technical teams.
A key highlight of the company’s presence is Michael Schmid’s session on practical DrupalAI work happening on November 18. He wants attendees to see real systems rather than theory, and he puts that purpose plainly by saying
“If you're curious about how AI is actually being used, join me for an in-depth look at a curated selection of Drupal AI projects in practice.”
Michael is clear that the session moves beyond hype, noting that
“We'll go beyond the buzzwords and examine how these solutions were developed, including the technical architecture, tooling decisions, and the real challenges and successes encountered.”
His goal is to leave people better equipped for their own projects, as he explains:
“Whether you're a developer, architect, or digital strategist, you'll come away with new ideas and practical insights for your own work.”
Around him is a team representing different parts of amazee.io’s work. Head of Sales Martin Schlögl sees the conference as a chance for long overdue in-person conversations across Asia. He explains that
“Nara is a great opportunity to build relationships that usually only happen online.”
Martin is also paying attention to how DrupalAI is being put to use in the region and stresses the importance of showing up alongside ANNAI, saying
“for Japan, it’s essential for us to demonstrate our presence alongside our exclusive distribution partner, ANNAI, and to further strengthen our collaboration and visibility in the country.”
Katy Walsh adds the broader strategic perspective behind the company’s involvement. For her, DrupalCon’s return to Asia represents a meaningful opportunity to build closer ties with the region. She puts it directly:
“We’re excited to support DrupalCon’s return to Asia because it gives us a chance to connect more closely with the region’s Drupal community.”
She also highlights how the event brings together local and global viewpoints, something she considers important for the company’s direction. As she explains,
“DrupalCon Nara gives us a valuable opportunity to meet directly with the Japanese tech community, understand their needs, and strengthen our collaboration with our local partner, ANNAI. At the same time, the event allows us to reconnect with the global Drupal network, share insights, and stay aligned with the community’s direction.”
On the engineering side, Platform Engineer Karl Hepworth is contributing both through his technical insight and through community involvement. He looks forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and supporting the photography sub committee, saying
“I'm looking forward to connecting with the community, seeing colleagues from afar and contributing to preserving the excitement and energy as part of the photography sub-committee.”
Karl is also watching how teams are thinking about AI, adding that he is “interested to see how everybody is looking into using AI to solve challenging problems as as we move forward with its usage,” while expecting that Dries will have something interesting planned for the community.
The team on the ground also includes Enterprise Account Executive Henk Beld, who contributes to conversations at the booth and brings his long experience with Drupal into discussions with attendees.
Together, the mix of leadership, sales, engineering, and long-time Drupal contributors gives amazee.io a well-rounded presence in Nara. With the booth active, the session drawing interest, and the team engaging closely with both regional and global community members, DrupalCon Nara is giving amazee.io the space to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and continue supporting the evolving future of Drupal and DrupalAI.
