Mautic Launches Fundraiser to Close 2026 Budget Gap
Mautic has launched an urgent fundraising campaign after projecting a $50,000 revenue shortfall in its 2026 budget, according to a statement shared by Ruth Cheesley.
The shortfall stems from re-budgeting decisions and membership tier adjustments by a small number of key members. In response, the project has implemented immediate cost reductions, including a 40% reduction in Project Lead hours and the cancellation of non-essential expenditure.
Ruth said the impact is already visible. A planned developer hire has been cancelled, key initiatives have been paused, and attendance at events has been suspended. The revised essential operating budget stands at $140,000, covering codebase management, infrastructure, and trademark protection. The project also aims to rebuild a $10,000 emergency reserve.
The fundraiser sets a minimum target of $40,000 to stabilize operations while revenue initiatives such as trials conversion optimization, a certification programme, and member growth and retention efforts are implemented. The ideal target of $60,000 would allow Mautic to execute its broader growth strategy without operating in survival mode. The campaign aims to reach its goal by the end of March, with more than $2,700 in matched funding already committed.
Funding beyond the initial target would support strategic initiatives including launching an artificial intelligence programme, funding a dedicated developer to address security backlogs and older pull requests, accelerating privacy-focused feature development, and reinstating contributor programmes such as Outreachy and task bounties.
Mautic positions itself as one of the few fully open source, privacy-focused marketing automation platforms. Cheesley stated that sustaining the platform is critical for organisations requiring data sovereignty, regulatory compliance, and self-hosted marketing automation solutions.
Supporters can contribute through the project’s fundraiser page, become a Member of Mautic, or pledge matched funding. Financial transparency reports and transaction records are publicly available through the project’s reporting channels.
