Keynote sessions at Drupal Iberia 2026 will include a presentation examining what is described as the “Drupal bubble,” a gap between internal community confidence and broader market visibility. Titled “Bursting the Bubble: Why Code Alone Won’t Save the Open Web,” the session will be delivered on 8 May at 14:00, shortly after event registration begins at 13:30, positioning it as an early framing discussion for the conference.

The keynote will be delivered by Alex Moreno, who frames the issue as a structural challenge for the Drupal ecosystem. The session argues that while Drupal has achieved significant technical maturity, this has not translated into broader awareness beyond its existing community. Drawing on experiences from events such as Web Summit Lisbon and FOST Paris, Moreno contrasts how Drupal is perceived in different contexts and introduces the idea of a “tragedy of the commons” to describe uneven investment in ecosystem visibility.

The session also connects these challenges to developer decisions, suggesting that choices around API design, developer experience, and integration patterns influence whether Drupal aligns with broader technology trends. It is positioned as a discussion-oriented keynote, focusing on how Drupal can be communicated and adopted beyond specialist communities.

A second keynote on 9 May at 10:00 will be delivered by Renata Loureiro Frade, titled “Who Builds the Future? Technology Communities, Feminist AI, and the Politics of Inclusion.” Her session draws on research across technology communities in Portugal and Brazil and examines how power, participation, and governance shape digital ecosystems. It raises questions about how artificial intelligence influences these dynamics and what design and governance choices are required to build more inclusive systems.

Together, the two keynotes indicate a programme that spans both ecosystem positioning and broader questions of inclusion and governance in technology communities. Additional details about the event are available on the event website.
