ARIA-Winning, Son? How to Achieve Accessibility Wins on Your Next Project

As developers, we often find ourselves working on websites that are not always accessible to everyone. We know the process of making a site more accessible can be a challenging task. It can involve audits, collecting data, creating tickets, explaining solutions to developers, and ultimately pushing those updates to production.

This process can be incredibly overwhelming. It is important to take time and care to address accessibility issues to welcome the site to a wider audience. It can be a long and painful dance when done infrequently, so we found more success in a baby steps approach.

Our journey began with the following,
- Identifying there is accessibility work to be done
- Getting buy-in from team members
- Assembling the right team
- Performing abbreviated audits
- Beginning the process

We started with a small team of committed individuals who have been able to share knowledge across a multitude of teams. Through these iterations, we have gained more interested team members and increased engagement.

Starting the journey to an accessible site can be a daunting task, but we have seen firsthand how tangible and accessible accessibility can be.
